Studiował architekturę i bawił się filmem w  Rhode Island School of Design. Wyprodukował i wyreżyserował długometrażowy film dokumentalny “Tell the Truth and Run: George Seldes and the American Press” (1996), który był nominowany do nagrody Akademii. Goldsmith wyprodukował i wyreżyserował również dokument “Everyday Heroes” (2001), zakulisową historię o AmeriCorps (narodowym Korpusie Pokojowym). Jest scenarzystą i montażystą dwóch jednogodzinnych dokumentów: “So Long Are You Young” (2006) autorstwa Judith Schaefer oraz “Soul of Justice: Thelton Henderson’s American Journey” (2005) autorstwa Abby Ginzberg.
