August 1: the beginning of Carl Th. Dreyer Retrospective
We’d like to remind that on August 1 at 12:00 p.m. we’re opening the retrospective review of the works of Carl Th. Dreyer, a director who had a huge influence on the development of cinema. Dreyer, raised in Lutheran family, focused in his works on the conflict between man and institution: state and religious alike.
The representatives of the Danish Film Institute, Thomas C. Christensen and Casper Tybjerg, will be our guests this year, accompanied by Maria Kornatowska and Tadeusz Szczepański, professors from the Łódź Film School, experts and admirers of Dreyer’s works. So prepare for a considerable amount of information, anecdotes and analyses of this Danish director’s films.
During TWO RIVERSIDES Festival we will present sixteen films of this remarkable director:
Long features: “Gertrud”, “The Passion of Joan of Arc” (La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc),“Heart’s Desire” (Mikaël)”, “Love One Another” (Die Gezeichnete), “Once Upon a Time” (Der var engang), “The Word” (Ordet), “Adventures of Allan Grey” (Vampyr – Der Traum des Allan Grey) and “The Parson’s Widow” (Prästänkan).
Short films: “Good Mothers” (Mødrehjælpen), “They Caught the Ferry” (De nåede far gen), “The Danish Village Church” (Landsbykirken), ““The Storstrøm Bridge” (Storstrømsbroen), “Thorvaldsen”, “The Fight Against Cancer” (Kampen mod kræften), “Water From the Land” (Vandet på landet) and “A Castle Within the Castle” (Et slot i et slot / Krogen og Kronborg).
The opening of this section will be held in PGE Cinema in Kazimierz.
