The Doors: Screening date
“When You’re Strange”, a documentary film directed by Tom DiCillo, will have its premiere screening during TWO RIVERSIDES Festival.
At the beginning there was Aldous Huxley’s ‘Doors of Perception’, an essay detailing the author’s experiences when taking mescaline. The title of the essay, culled from William Blake’s “Marriage of Heaven and Hell”, also provided the name for a rock band, The Doors. The group was established by Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek in 1965 in Venice beach.
The combination of music and mysticism in their songs was supposed to broaden perception, just like the drugs taken by Huxley. And maybe there’s nothing extraordinary in the fact that they both met John Densmore and Robby Krieger, the two remaining members of the band, during an esoteric course.
The documentary uncovers historic and previously unseen footage shot between the band’s formation and Morrison’s death in Paris in 1971. It follows the band from the corridors of UCLA’s film school, where Manzarek and Morrison met, to the stages of sold-out arenas. It a real must for the band’s fans, with a short film directed by Morrison himself entitled Highway.
‘When You’re Strange’ is a real homeage paid to this illustrious rock quartet, to the artists who achieved success with six albums recorded in 5 years. It provides new insight into the revolutionary legacy and impact of their music on pop culture.
