TWO RIVERSIDES Film and Art Festival 2010
Come and enjoy the 4th edition of Film and Art. Festival TWO RIVERSIDES which will be held from July 31 to August 8 in Kazimierz Dolny and Janowiec by the Vistula River.
This year’s programme has been developed since the autumn of 2009. One of the most important film events, the Berlinale festival, is right before us. So far we’ve sought new inspirations during the festivals in San Sebastian, Venice, Gdynia, Bratislava and Rotterdam. Some choices have already been made…. We also invite filmmakers to submit films to our Festival, the deadline is June 1, 2010.
The structure of the Festival programme, developed during three previous editions of the event, remains unchanged. In WORLD UNDER CANVASS section we’ll present the most interesting feature films of the 2009/2010 season. It’s worth mentioning that so far our last year’s high spots - Jacques Audiard’s Prophet, Adam Elliot’s Mary and Max,Sam Mendes’ Away we go and Bruno Barreto’s Last Stop 174 – have been awarded many prizes.
Audiard’s film, Academy’s nominee in the Foreign Language Films category this year, had its world premiere during the Cannes Festival in 2009, where it received the Grand Prix. The TWO RIVERSIDES audience had the unique opportunity to see the film. It was the second and the last chance to see it in its original digital version. Later the film had been edited.
Last year we gave our audience the only chance to see Jose Padilha’s Garapa, Pier Paolo Pasolini and Giuseppe Bertolucci’s Pasolini’s Anger and Pedro Urano’s Royal Road of Cachaça in the DOCUMENTARY section.
IN THE SHORT RUN section will present the most insightful and memorable short films of the 2009/2010 season. During the previous edition of the Festival our audience could see Daniel Rezende’s Blackout, Pedro Pires’ Danse Macabre, Pavel Oreshnikov’sResolution (screened at the festival in Locarno at the same time) and many others. Rezende is a well-known editor of such films as Fernando Meirelles’ City of God andWalter Salles’ Motorcycle Diaries; Pires’ Danse Macabre was called the Best Canadian Short Film during the festival in Toronto.
And again in MUSIC, MY LOVE section we’ll show films in which music is a very important element. During the 3rd edition of our Festival we presented Cori Guerra’s Wind Journeys. It was the first screening in Poland and the first one after the film’s world premiere in Cannes. We even outdid the festival in San Sebastian!
All of you who come to the Festival will have a chance to take part in the Audience Poll. You’ll choose the best full – length feature films. Last year the Audience Award was given to Davis Guggenheim’s It May Get Loud; Adam Elliot’s Mary and Max won the second place and the third was taken by Sam Mendes’ Away We Go and Mike Bonanno, Andy Bichlbauma and Kurt Engfehr’s Yes-men fix the world. Films presented in the SCHOOL AND AMATEUR SHORT FILMS COMPETITION will be judged by twenty members of the Independent Jury, chosen from among the festival audience. The recruitment for the Independent Jury will start in May.
The winners of the previous SCHOOL AND AMATEUR SHORT FILMS COMPETITION wereBartek Cierlica Gravediggers, Balbina Bruszewska City Sails on and Erika Janunger Weightlessness.
We are looking forward to see you in Kazimierz and Janowiec during summer holidays. We’ll make every effort to satisfy your cinematic needs. Be sure that by taking part in the discussions and meetings with various artists you become co-creators of the TWO RIVERSIDES Festival.
