Dear Friends,

The 4th edition of Film and Art Festival TWO RIVERSIDES Kazimierz Dolny – Janowiec by the Vistula River begins tomorrow. The first two days of the event will be full of Polish premieres of pictures from different countries, graced with the presence of their authors.

We will start with an earthquake, and then we will be grading the tension. „The Secret in Their Eyes” („El Secreto de Sus Ojos”), the Opening Film created by an Argentinian director, scriptwriter and film editor Juan Jose Campanella, is this year’s winner of the Oscar in the Best Foreign Language Film category. It’s a multi-layered and poignant thriller interweaving the personal lives of a state prosecution investigator and a judge, with a manhunt spanning twenty-five years.

During the same evening we will present A Somewhat Gentle Man, an unusual comedy directed by Hans Petter Moland with the amazing Stellan Skarsgård in the main part. The main character, Ulrik, is released from prison after 12 years spent there for murder. Now a time comes for settling certain cases, among them the one with the man who put Ulrik behind bars for so long.

The screening of Animal Kingdom, by an Australian director David Michôd, will be the pearl in the crown of the Saturday night. The film, often compared with the famous Godfather, is a stunning crime drama with excellent takes.

On Sunday we will hold the premiere screening of the latest Abbas Kiarostami’s film. The Iranian film master will take us on a journey to Tuscany where he set his Certified Copy, an intimate and beautiful story about longing for love in marriage. In the main role you will see Juliette Binoche, awarded the best actress prize at Cannes Film Festival this year.

On Sunday we will inaugurate three of the Festival sections. Together with the guests from the Dannish Film Institute we will open the retrospective of Carl Theodore Dreyer’s works with his masterpiece The Passion of Joan of Arc. The film Angelus will open the retrospective review of the works of Lech Majewski, who will be our guest at the Festival together with Andrzej Mastalerz, the leading actor in the film. 

Jerzy Stuhr- a magnificent actor, scriptwriter, filmmaker and stage director- will be our guest in ‘And God created actor’ section this year. First we’ll present his Love Stories, awarded Golden Lions at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. Our viewers will have a chance to meet with the artist during ‘Cinema Lesson’ and take part in a discussion about his fascinations with cinema.

TWO RIVERSIDES Festival turns the volume up! ‘Music, My Love’ section, full of discoveries, famous stars, music and rhythm, will be opened with Cory McAbee’s American Astronaut. The director will come to Kazimierz to meet with our audience. 

There is one more pearl shining amongst Sunday screenings. It’s Shirin Neshat’s Women without men , her debut feature, a beautiful portray of Iran at its turning point. 

And it is just the beginning of the feast for film lovers prepared during the 4^th edition of Film and Art Festival TWO RIVERSIDES Kazimierz Dolny- Janowiec by the Vistula River.
