Great Monday at TWO RIVERSIDES

A DIFFERENT WORLD opened in Kazimierz Dolny, Janowiec and Puławy. The retrospective reviews of Carl Theodore Dreyer and Lech Majewski have just started. Tybjerg Caspar and Thomas C. Christensen, the guests from the Danish Film Institute, introduced us to the avant-garde works of this filmmaker just before the screening of his film ‘The Passion of Joan of Arc’. During TWO RIVERSIDES Festival we will screen 16 films directed by Dreyer, films that have been brought to you from archives located all over Europe.

Thanks to ‘Angelus’, the film which opened the retrospective of Lech Majewski, we travelled from Kazimierz to Silesia. Andrzej Mastalerz, playing the role of Oswald, and the director himself introduced us to the world of the film. The section consists of 13 film projects directed by Lech Majewski, each of them representing a different chapter in the director’s career.

This year Jerzy Stuhr is our guest in ‘And God created actor’ section, which was opened with the film ‘Love Stories’. Apart from his 9 most interesting film performances planned in this section, you will have a great opportunity to see him in the monodrama ‘The Double Bass’, this coming Saturday at TWO RIVERSIDES Festival.

Our PGE Cinema tent almost burst at the seams when over 900 people came to see the premiere of Abbas Kiarostami’s latest film, Certified Copy. By the middle of the day there were no tickets to this performance left in the box offices, but it didn’t discoursge Juliette Binoche admirers who decided to see the film even sitting cross-legged on the floor. The actress was awarded the Best Acrtess prize at the festival in Cannes this year.

Shirin Neshat‘s debut film, ‘Women Without Men‘, also moved the audience. The film is based on a novel of the same title, forbidden in Iran. It is about the problem of different shades of femiminity of Iranian women, portrayed not from the local perspective, but from the one of the Iranian feminist artist who has been living outside this country for years.

We were taken to A DIFFERENT WORLD by Cory McAbee with his American Astronaut, a film that opened ‘MUSIC, MY LOVE’ section. With this film he proved that it’s possible to combine musical with science-fiction. The director will be our guest in Kazimierz, and here will be seeking inspiration for his future projects. You will be able to meet him in I Love Cinema Cafe today at 3:00 p.m.

Viewers besieged the Small Cinema yesterday evening when we screened Arkadiusz Jakubik’s The Simple Story About Love.  The film was awarded Grand Prix at the festival in Gdynia. This multilayered story surprised the audience with the curious dissonance between its title and the plot and caused laughter mixed with reflections on the characters.

Today we have another set of film journeys prepared for you. Thomas Vintenberg’s Submarino, featured in the Main Competition of the festival in Berlin, will be featured in PGE Cinema. At noon, during ‘Cinema Lesson…’ section, you will have a chance to talk with Krzysztof Zanussi. We will go on a film journey to Philippines and later to the Bulgarian province portrayed by Sophia Tzavelli in Hotel Paradise. What happened with the title’ paradise’? You will have a chance to learn the answer during the screening of the film and during the meeting with the author who is our guest in Kazimierz.

Come to Kazimierz Dolny, Janowiec by the Vistula River and Puławy. Two Riversides have already begun.
