TWO RIVERSIDES Festival nominated for the Polish Film Institute award!
The nominees for the annual Polish Film Institute awards have been announced. The awards go to people and institutions that have the greatest influence on the development, promotion and popularizing of film culture in Poland. Our festival was nominated for the award in ‘International film event’ category.
Other film festivals competing for PFI award in this category are: 25th Warsaw International Film Festival, 9th Era New Horizons International Film Festival and 11th ‘Cinema at the Border’ Film Review.
Your presence at TWO RIVERSIDES Festival and the nomination for PFI award confirm us in the belief that the road we have taken is right. For the last four years we have been proving that the cinema is a synthesis of different kinds of art, like music, visual arts and theatre. Being the art of arts, it easily transgresses not only geographical, but also cultural boundaries. We had the pleasure to have many distinguished artists at our festival, among them Bob Rafelson, Jiri Menzel, Gustavo Santaolalla, Bruno Baretto, Felice Laudadio, Piotr Szulkin, Janusz Gajos, Krystyna Janda, Sławomir Idziak, Jerzy Skolimowski, Łukasz Barczyk, Zbigniew Zamachowski, Borys Szyc, and many others who also agreed to come this year to Kazimierz and Janowiec.
Grażyna Torbicka, Artistic Director of the festival, invites all of you to come to the 4th edition of the event. During the first week of August Kazimierz Dolny will change into a cinema town. Among many interesting points, this year’s programme includes the retrospective of Carl Theodor Dreyer’s films. Together with Ingmar Bergman, this Danish filmmaker is considered the most distinguished Scandinavian director. We will try to ponder over his phenomenon. The guests from the Danish Film Institute will accompany us while discovering the mysteries of Danish cinema. You will also have the chance to meet a real Renaissance man, Lech Majewski. The film and theatre director, screenwriter, poet, composer and visual artist, whose charismatic personality always draws attention of the whole artistic world, accepted the invitation to TWO RIVERSIDES Festival. You will be able to see his charisma with your own eyes.
This year Jerzy Stuhr will be our guest in ‘God created… actor’ section, where you could already see Krystyna Janda and Janusz Gajos. Apart from many examples of his cinematic achievements, you will have the opportunity to watch him in ‘Contrabassist’, Stuhr’s rarely staged monodrama.
‘Cinema lesson- confessions of a filmmaker’ is another tried-and-true festival proposition. The artists, invited to take part in those intimate meetings, tell about their passions and inspirations, and present fragments of their films. This year we invited Filip Bajon to take part in the meeting. So far we’ve had the pleasure to listen to the confessions of Bob Rafelson, Wiesław Saniewski, Wojciech Marczewski, Sławomir Idziak, Sławomir Grunberg, Piotr Szulkin, Bruno Baretto and many others.
During TWO RIVERSIDES Festival you can watch the newest films selected at the most important European film festivals. In our programme this year you will find Juan Jose Campanella’s „El secreto de sus ojos”, the 2010 Oscar winner in ‘Foreign Language Film’ category. The selection of films will last until the end of Cannes International Film Festival.
We would like to congratulate all the nominees for Polish Film Institute awards. The awards will be presented during the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia in May.
See you in Kazimierz and Janowiec at TWO RIVERSIDES Festival, from July 31st to August 8th.
