Kazimierz Dolny- a town in Puławy County, Lublin Voivodship, situated on the banks of the Vistula River. Historically located in the region of Małopolska, it’s the seat of Kazimierz Dolny commune and a part of the Puławy- Kazimierz Dolny- Nałęczów tourist route.

Kazimierz’s origins date back to the 11th century. A settlement called Wietrzna Gora, belonging to the Benedictine Order, was located on one of the hills. In 1181 duke Casimir the Just gave it to the Norbertines from Zwierzyniec, Cracow, who then changed its name into Kazimierz (the name of their donor). The name ‘Kazimierz’ first appeared in chronicles in 1249 and years later the adjective ‘Dolny’ was added to distinguish it from a town located in the vicinity of Cracow, also called Kazimierz. 150 years later king Władysław the Short became the owner of the settlement and surrounding villages and in 1325 he founded a parish church there.

Janowiec- a town founded and owned by Piotr Firlej; located on the land belonging to the village Serokomla. It was granted town charter in 1537 by the royal privilege of King Sigismund the Old. In the early period Janowiec was situated at the intersection of important trade routes from Ruś through the region of Małopolska to Silesia. Yet the immediate proximity of other towns, which were important trade centers in the 16th century, hindered the development of Janowiec and eventually the town lost its status. In 1941 the Nazis carried out the bloody pacification of the town, murdering about 210 people and destroying the village. When the war was over, the town was rebuilt.

Janowiec bugle-call is a part of ‘Moje miejsce na ziemi’, a song composed by Mateusz Pospieszalski.
