The elevator of an anonymous student housing block in Munich/Germany connects the stories of foreign students Motek, Clara nad Sin – three lone wolfs in an unknown country – three Desperados on the Block.

Latvian student Motek Wajta is deaf-mute since birth. He has fallen in love with librarian Elvira who doesn’t know about his handicap. Motek makes a slightly odd proposal: in a letter he asks her to spend one day with him without speaking. Extremely shy Sin Xiuah came from Shanghai to study physics in Germany. To finance his studies he does home visits as a tutor in math. But already his first pupil puts him off his stride: perky 15-year-old Hanna takes advantage of his precariousness to test her nascent sexuality – and to rebel against her parents.

Clara Mateescu is from Romania and studies Catholic theology. The only one she shares her thoughts and feeling is God. But when she speaks to him in her prayers she never gets a reaction from Him. Clara decides to break all Ten Commandments to arouse God’s attention – and to make him embrace her as his lost sheep.

It’s a long and winding path for Motek, Sin, and Clara to finally realize what they really need: simply become what they are.
