August 3: „Thus Spoke Budda Chinaski”- a music show

Charles Bukowski, an American ‘cursed artist’, died on March 9, 1994 after a wild and scandalous life. The show had its premiere during the 28th Actor’s Song Review on the 13th anniversary of the artist’s death and it consists of his poems, prose and notes. It’s amazing how he could constantly talk about the world sparkling in his poems with million shades of darkness. He could talk about narcotic addiction to a mediocre life where collecting race winnings, a woman and a reserve of cheap wine for one week mean happiness and fulfillment. Such was his fascination with life and the way he decided to go. ‘Existential darkness’ would seem attractive although it can be painful and vulgar at first. His texts could only be sang by a woman able to express longing for true feeling. That is what Bukowski wanted to tell and what the show is about.
