Tsubota Yoshifumi at TWO RIVERSIDES Festival

Once again TWO RIVERSIDES exceed geographical boundaries. During this year´s festival we would like to invite you to the world of Japanese manga. It will be a Polish premiere and the only chance to see the film MIYOKO directed by TSUBOTYAYOSHIFUMI.  So far in Europe the picture has been presented only at the Festival in Rotterdam.

The film tells the story about the life of Abe Shinichi – a Japanese artist, who focuses mainly on the manga, a Japanese type of comic. Yoshifumi Tsubota, beside adaptation of the cult comic book of Shinichigo Miyoko Asagaya Kibun, decided to make a biographical film about its creator at the same time. Thanks to this idea Miyoko has become an extraordinary film biography combining animation with live actors. The title is the name of Shinchin´s best friend, wife and a muse at the same time. It is a leading figure in the film and her body is a source of artistic inspiration. Beautiful art of the images creates a very sensual animation and sets paths of an intimate journey through life of Japanese bohemia in the 70s. After watching Miyoko no one will longer wonder why the word manga literally translates as “uncontrollable imagesˇ. During TWO RIVERSIDES Festival there will be an opportunity to talk with the director as Yoshifumi Tsubota accepted our invitation to Kazimierz and will be our guest.

Geographical and mostly cultural and emotional journey into A DIFFERENT WORLD will be during TWO RIVERSIDES Festival. With film premieres there will be a chance to meet with the creators from the USA, Mexico, Germany, Spain, Cuba and Japan.

Tsubota Yoshifumi’s MIYOKO is part of a new cycle on both banks – FAK OFF. Film Anthology of Comic has to convince the audience of how far a simple form of comics was an inspiration for large-format filmmakers. The FAK OFF on TWO RIVERSIDES  will include titles such as;  Oldboy (dir. Chan wook Park) and BATMAN (dir. Leslie H. Martinson). Full list of titles from each section will be available soon on our website.
