The poor Clown in this film represents the role of a mediator. His function is to be an object of projection for the “underage” audience within the film and he acts in a kind of a hermetic world in-between. There he has been pitched in and so of course he is trying to do his utmost to get out of it. So this clown is doing things, which we would like to do but we are often not able to do.
