“Cinema Lesson- confessions of a filmmaker”. Informal conversations with artists.

Dear Friends,

TWO RIVERSIDES is an alliance, a symbiosis between the art and its recipients. In ‘Cinema Lesson- confessions of a filmmaker’ section our audience can be closer to the artists and take part in informal discussions about their fascinations with art in general, about seeking inspiration, about their mentors and masters, and finally about sins they’ve committed on their artistic paths. The outcome of each meeting is an interesting portrait of the artists and a vivid discussion about values, views and the role of art in everyday life.

This year our invitation to this section was accepted by Lech Majewski (a retrospective of his works will be hosted at TWO RIVERSIDES Festival), Jan Hrebejk (his latest film Kawasaki’s Rose will have its Polish premiere during the Closing Evening of our Festival), Filip Bajon (a prose writer, screenwriter, filmmaker and stage director, a professor and dean of the Directing Department at Łódź Film School), Krzysztof Zanussi (one of the most distinguished Polish film directors, member of the European Film Academy). We’d also like to invite you to a special ‘Cinema Lesson…’ during which you’ll meet Jerzy Stefan Stawiński, one of the most outstanding screenwriters, co-author of the best films in the history of Polish cinematography, eg. Andrzej Munk’s Man on the Tracks, Eroica, Crossed Luck (the last one will be featured in the Mosquito Cinema on the Vistula River on August 3) and Andrzej Wajda’s Canal. During this ‘Cinema Lesson…’ we’ll show Jerzy Stefan Stawiński in one of the last interviews he gave, recorded in 2008 at the Kraków Screenwriter’s School.

Our guests in ‘Cinema Lesson’ section were: Bob Rafelson, Bruno Barreto, Sławomir Grünberg, Wojciech Marczewski, Andrzej Titkow, Jerzy Stuhr, Sławomir  Idziak and Piotr Szulkin. Since 2009 each meeting has been recorded. In this way we create TWO RIVERSIDES Festival archive.

The retrospective review of works of the most outstanding actors was initiated at TWO RIVERSIDES Festival two years ago. During two previous editions of the Festival our audiences had pleasure to meet Janusz Gajos and Krystyna Janda. This year we invite you to seet Jerzy Stuhr, an actor of complex personality. At our Festival you’ll have the only chance to watch him in ‘The Double Bass’ monodrama. The play, written by Patrick Süskind, has been drawing throngs of spectators for years. It has been staged in the USA, Canada, Austria and Italy. On August 6 – 25 years after its premiere- TWO RIVERSIDES Festival audience will have the unique opportunity to see the monodrama.

The tickets to the opening and closing films and passes to the Festival screenings are available in our on-line store. The virtual box-office will be open from July 28.

Come and spend time in Kazimierz Dolny, Janowiec by the Vistula River and Puławy, from July 31 to August 8.
